Drive day again. We heart drive days and cankles.
Today we stopped for lunch in Slovakia, in the smallest capital city in the world Bratislava.
We sweltered in the mid day heat as we had an hour to look around and find some lunch and toilets- key goals for the seasoned bus traveller; of which we would class ourselves as now! We entered the city through St Mark’s gate where there was something like a sundial showing the direction and distance to important places around the world...Gore was somehow missed out so the next closest place to claim was the South pole, perhaps Sydney was closer but after travelling with a bunch of Aussies for the last couple of weeks we’d never hear the end of it if we ‘claimed’ Sydney!
Onwards and upwards...well kind of more sort of Easterly/Nor’easterly we found ourselves (luckily) in Budapest, or more precisely the citadel on the Pest side of the city. From here there were panoramic views of this beautiful city and the Danube which is currently in flood. Further up the hill was an impressive statue to do with when Hungary was occupied. Our tour leader Emma rates Budapest as the most beautiful cities in Europe.
Inert joke here: Why was Hungary hungry....Because it looked over the border and saw Turkey! Hahaha
After a painfully slow drive tour of the city due to traffic flow...or lack of we went to Fatal restaurant. The name made a few of us wonder what was in store as we entered down underground into the restaurant. We were soon to realise that Fatal was referring to what would happen to you if you managed to finish one of their meals...the servings are HUGE!
