DAY 16 – Rome to Venice

Travelling Day… yes yet another one.

We are now getting very good at repacking our bags. Loading them on the bus and then sitting in one place for 2.5 hour stretches. Just for a change we stopped briefly at Verona. Verona is the second most romantic city in Italy, Venice being the most. Who decides these things? What is the criteria? Please feel free to explain this process. Of course it could be that the famous Romeo and Juliet story is based in Verona. We now have seen the apparent famed “ Juliet’s balcony”. As it is a fictional story someone is making a lot of money. There is a statue of Juliet which is meant to bring good luck, and a wall of love letters stuck on mainly with chewing gum. Yum. Verona was our first glimpse of venetian glass. There were excited cries of “ooh shiny”, “pretty colours” and “I want it, budget…what budget?”

Slightly more glisteny and puffed (as we were running late for the bus pick up) we headed onwards to Venice. There we stayed at another “Camping ground” on the outskirts. Secondary to our little shopping moment Jess required cash. She tried in Verona 3 times. Denied!!! Maybe it was the cash machine. She then tried at the camp ground. This time not only denied but card retained!!!!! Yes the horror the card was no longer with us. It had gone to the great card shredder in the sky. Explanations flew between us. What had happened? Why now? What to do? Then Jess has an epiphany maybe she was putting in the wrong pin. Actually now that she thought about yes it was the wrong pin. Ooops.
