We awoke to the towering Swiss Alps and in a way it felt like home – just like the Hokonui’s really…only bigger (like waaaaaay bigger), covered in pines, with majestic waterfalls and gistening snow…actually not much like the Hokonui’s at all! This morning’s mission, was to conquer Jungfrau – 4000m above sea level. We strapped on our cramp-ons, packed up our bags and hunted out our ice picks for the epic journey…to the train station. Luckily for us there happened to be a train heading up to the peak that day so the ice pick was surplus to requirements and would prove to be one of those annoy items of carry on luggage one finds themselves carting around the world. Turns out wearing shorts (jess and whitey) and sandels with socks (abby) were just as useful for the snowy heights. Two hours later and we had conquered the mighty Jungfrau.
What do you find at the the “top of the Europe” ?
1. heated handrails
2. spectacular views
3. limited oxygen
4. snow
5. ice palace
What do you do?
1. Find toilet
2. You got to the lookout and… look out.
3. You spend a ridiculous of energy and oxygen trying to climb a flight of stairs
4. You…..
On returning from our epic journey, we managed to fit in a couple of other side attractions. You would think after our high altitude training we would have been highly tuned atheletes running up the steep hill to go behind the local waterfall. You would be wrong. However the effort was worth it, there is something about slowly getting soaked be the spray of a powerful waterfall that has travelled down the swi
ss alps after melting off an ancient glacier. Mmmm ancient water.
Shopping therapy was needed to finish the day. With the rain coming down ad the mountains hidden by cloud it would be rude not to shop for the swiss classics watches and knives.
